July 10 Meeting & BBQ

This month’s meeting will be at Joan’s house. Any and all are invited to show up anytime after noon and stay until they’re tired. Bring a side dish, make a few beads for Beads of Courage. If you have favorite tools that you can’t torch without, bring those and your didy’s. Leave the enamels at home to simplify garaging. Soft drinks and iced tea will be available. A brief business meeting will be held at 2:00 to update everyone on the Glass Galore information that has been done by Lendy and Daphne. Fun will be had.

The challange this month is Christmas in July, so bring your holliday beads to show. We will also do an ornament exchange. Wrap an ornament that you made, it can be big or small, for the exchange.

May 15th Meeting

Our meeting this month has been moved to the 3rd Sunday so that our members could enjoy Mothers Day with their families. The meeting will be at the home of Cindy Jenkins and the challange this month is florals.

3/28/2011 – Be sure to check out the calendar for the 2011 meetings and bead challenges! We’re still working on our meeting locations, but you can check out what our next challenge will be!

April’s challenge will be Shades of Green! Dust off your green rods of glass and create some great beads for show and tell!

November Meeting

11/02/2010 – We’ve got a great meeting on tap for the month of November, which is scheduled for Sunday, November 14th from 2:00-4:00. We’re excited to announce this meeting will take place at a new venue: Trentwood Glassworks! They’ve graciously opened their doors to the SLLS, and we’re looking forward to seeing their new shop! In addition to a new location, we’ve got many activities on tap for the meeting! Activities will include (in addition to our normal business):

ABR Imagery visit & goody delivery
Holiday bead challenge
Holiday bead demos
Nominations for 2011 board members

8/8/2010 – Today is our August meeting, which will be held at Fusion in Chesterfield Mall! This delightful shop is located on the second level, just outside Sears. The meeting begins at 2:00 PM and will include a demonstration of adding dots to beads! Hope to see you there!

June Meeting Information

5/25/2010 – Hello everyone! Just wanted to remind all of you that we’ll soon be getting together for our next SLLS meeting on Sunday, June 13th! The meeting starts at 2:00 PM and will take place at Glasshopper Studio in Creve Coeur. Peyton Jett will be demoing how to use silver glass and our bead challenge for the month is FRIT BEADS! We look forward to seeing you there!

April 4, 2010 Meeting Summary

Anyone with a studio set-up in her/his home, please let Joan know for demos that require melting glass. The next meeting will be May 2^nd.

Two of the recently ordered books have arrived but Michel is still waiting for Contemporary Lampworking III. Cindy donated a “Smircich Makes Beads” DVD.

Marilyn gave details on two possible digital photo frames and was told to buy the Sunpak 15 inch one.

Melissa is still working on a date with Libby for the Beads of Courage Torch Off. Glass Galore Committee meetings will be the 3^rd Wednesday of the month at 6 p.m. The next meetings are in June and August; see the website for details.

Karla reminded members that application sheets are on the website for the website’s Spotlight section.

Kate had proposed a bead/jewelry sale on the parking lot of her store in Edwardsville. Dates were thrown about; July 10^th was decided upon.

Gail won the bead, provided by Sharon.

March 2010 Meeting Recap

Joan can get 4 inch, 5.25 inch and 7 inch display boxes at bulk buy prices. The boxes use a double layer film to hold beads in place.

The Library will soon have Bandu Scott Dunham’s Contemporary Lampworking III, Encase It! Refining Skills for Glass Beadmakers by Deanna Griffin Dove , and Paul Stankard’s No Green Berries or Leaves: The Creative Journey of an Artist in Glass. The key mandrel has arrived and is available for check out.

Members’ contact info is not on the website because some members don’t want it there; could do a login site for members. Meeting minutes are not on the website because they are emailed to members.

Membership payments are due by March to avoid inactive status.

Q-tips questions were about the best bead release for long beads and a question about why mandrels bend at the tip.

The next meeting’s challenge at Joan’s home is spring beads; the “demo” will be studio set-up and exhaust safety.
