The SLLS is dedicated to the art of lampworking; making glass beads, pendants, marbles, and sculptures in an open flame. The society provides resources and educational forums for those in the region interested in learning more about lampworking.
About the SLLS
Beginning in 1999, a small group of St. Louis glass beadmakers met in what became the foundation of the Saint Louis Lampworkers Society. With the goal of sharing knowledge, ideas and resources, the group formally organized in 2002. Meeting schedules, demonstrations and art shows were the main topics of discussion in those formative meetings. By March 2003, the SLLS had 37 members and an organized approach to an annual bead show with sponsorship from two of the local bead stores that cater to lampwork artists. Today, the SLLS continues to support the founding ideals of increasing awareness of the art, sharing resources and providing a forum for local lampwork artists to share their experiences and knowledge.
